THIS festive season Southampton will be welcoming a ‘grumble’ of pugs as the city’s first Christmas Pop Up Pug Pub opens for one day only.

Blending two of humankind’s favourite creations, The London Road Brewhouse, in Bedford Place, is throwing open its doors to a special day mixing people’s love of pugs and pints.

The brainchild of Dee Bushrod, the event is designed to give Hampshire pugs and their owners the chance to meet up, enjoy some craft, and dog, beer as well as raise funds for The Pug Dog Welfare Group and Homeward Bound Pug Rescue.

Dee, 39, told the Daily Echo the night was inspired by her own rescue pug Bessie, who sadly passed away in September.

It’s the second event Dee has hosted following the debut night in Southsea.

She said: “I was overwhelmed with the level of interest in the first pug pub and the long waiting list we had for the event, so planning another event seemed like the best thing to do.

“The London Road Brew House really stood out to me because of its dog-friendly reputation and on site brewery.

“When I visited the location for the first time, I was amazed with the urban, eclectic feel of the pub and the friendly staff and it seemed like a perfect venue to host the second Pop Up Pug Pub.”

Along with the normal selection of drinks at the London Road bar, Snuffle Dog Beer, a non-alcoholic drink that comes in beef and chicken flavour, will be served for any thirsty pups.

Sian Luker, assistant manager of the pub, said: “As a dog-friendly venue already, it seemed like the perfect pairing to host the Pop Up Pug Pub and give Hampshire pug owners the opportunity to have a Christmas party and enjoy some locally brewed beers and ales and pair it with our fresh hand made pizzas.”

It takes place from 10am until 4.30pm on Sunday December 17, with four different one and a half hour time slots available.

Tickets cost £4.50 per human and can be purchased from the Pop Up Pug Pub website.
