THIEVES smashed into a board game cafe in Southampton and caused hundreds of pounds worth of damage.

Michelle Dadswell and Hayley Binstead, owners of board game themed cafe Board in the City, have been left with a bill of hundreds of pounds after thieves broke into their premises on Onslow Road in Southampton last night.

Thieves broke into the premises shortly before 5am this morning gaining entry by smashing of the windows.

The culprits took several pieces of game stock and caused damage to a table.

Hayley said: "There are so many indepedent retailers in Southampton being targeted, what can we do?

"The police have said that we couldn't have done anymore, the cash is not on the premises, the till is left open to show it is empty, the light is left on so that we can see better detail.

"Nobody should have go through kind of mindless vandalism whether it's small or indepedent retailers."

The café which opened in February 2016 operates like a resource centre where gamers can choose from over 200 games on site, with games masters on hand to go through the rules.

The Daily Echo have contacted Hampshire Police for comment.
