TENANTS from two proble flats have been evicted following court action.

Gosport Borough Council has repossessed the two flats in Turner Avenue and Niton Close in Gosport following constant drug activity and other anti-social behaviour.

The action comes after the council and Hampshire Police went to Portsmouth Magistrates Court to get closure orders made on the two properties in August and July retrospectively following complaints from neighbours about the activity which led to inspections from housing officers.

Julie Smith, the council's head of housing, said: "We're very pleased that the courts agreed with us that these properties should be repossessed.

"Our residents should not have to put up with the kind of behaviour they suffered in these cases. It's good that we can now put these properties to proper use."

The one-bedroom flats will now be deep-cleaned and made available to local people on the housing waiting list.
