Saints have won just once in seven games after losing 3-0 at Anfield against a clinical Liverpool.
Saints failed to muster a shot on target, but the same can’t be said of Liverpool, who created many openings and remain unbeaten on home turf.
Mo Salah did the damage in the first-half, netting twice in a ten minute period for his 13th and 14th goals of the campaign.
The Egyptian curled in from the edge of the box on 31 minutes, before flicking home from Phil Coutinho’s wonderful through ball with the outside of his foot.
Saints showed little endeavour in the second half and tried to change their fortunes by introducing Charlie Austin.
That failed to have the desired impact and Jurgen Klopp’s side extended their lead to 3-0 as Coutinho hit home after Fraser Forster parried Roberto Firmino’s powerful effort from inside the box.
Saints sit 14th in the Premier League after this one.
