WITH two home games coming up in the next six days, Winchester City boss Craig Davis was content to bring a point back from in-form Yate Town yesterday.

The 1-1 Lodge Road draw made it six league games undefeated for Yate, who had just beaten Swindon Supermarine and Slimbridge.

“You have to respect a point away from home against a side who were flying,” said Davis, whose City charges sit tenth in the Evo-Stik South West.

“But we missed a hatful of chances first half when we were dominating and it was a bitter pill to swallow when we conceded on the stroke of half-time.”

Andy Jenkinson had smashed City’s best chance against the crossbar and Oli Bailey was denied by goalkeeper Harvey Rivers before Lewis Leigh-Gilchrist gave the Bluebells a 43rd-minute lead.

But Winchester took just ten second-half minutes to peg them back with a low shot from Pat Cox after Bailey had scampered in behind the home defence.

It was the third game running that City had come back from behind to salvage at least a point.

“We had a bit of a pop at half-time for the missed chances and the sloppy error that gave them the lead, but we showed good character,” said Davis.

“We had a go at Yate second half, but we didn’t go gung-ho. As the game wears on away from home you don’t want to completely throw men at it and leave the back door open.”

Midfielder Liam Gilbert battled through the game with a chest infection, but might be struggling for Tuesday's (7.45pm) visit of eighth-placed Swindon Supermarine.

Defender Adam Tomasso misses another three games suspended and wideman Simba Mlambo is still recovering from a shoulder problem.

“After Swindon on Tuesday, we’ve got (third-placed) Bideford at home on Saturday,” said Davis. “They’re two tough fixtures, but these are the games you want to be involved in.”

*SALISBURY remain fourth in the Evo-Stik South West after losing their grip on a 1-0 lead at Cinderford Town.

Zack Kotwica put the Whites ahead with just over a quarter of an hour gone in the Forest of Dean, but a Craig Norman header six minutes after the break pegged them back to 1-1.

With Charlie Searle suspended, 19-year-old Tom Roberts impressed on his debut in goal as Salisbury made it six away league games unbeaten.

Next up for Steve Claridge’s men is a Wednesday night trip to Larkhall Athletic in the BigFreeBet.com Challenge Cup second round.
