WINCHESTER City have landed the plum fixture in the quarter-finals of the Southampton Senior Cup.

The Evo-Stik South West club have been drawn at home to Saints, who are competing in the tournament this season to help celebrate the competition's centenary.

So far, a youthful Saints XI have only been drawn at home - hammering BTC Southampton 6-0 and QK Southampton 12-0 at Staplewood.

The Winchester tie, likely to take place in early January, has been welcomed with open arms by the cathedral city club who have been fielding a largely young side in the competition - and will continue to do so against Saints under-23s.

"It's a perfect draw for us with the way we've been playing with a young team in the competition," said Davis.

"Obviously we don't want to get murdered by Saints, so we will have some first-team squad members involved but, other than that, we'll be playing the young team that turn out for the reserves and travel everywhere.

"It's a thankless task sometimes, even for the reserve team management. They deserve their place in the sun."

Hampshire Premier League second tier club Netley Central Sports won through to the last eight at the weekend.

They produced a surprise 2-0 home win over HPL top flight outfit Infinity, with both goals coming from Matt Watts.

Netley will now host Sydenhams Wessex Premier outfit Lymington Town - three tiers above them in the pyramid - for a place in the semi-finals.

The three remaining Southampton Senior Cup third round ties are due to take place tonight.

Quarter-final draw: Brockenhurst/Sholing FC v Hamble Club/Bush Hill Netley Central Sports v Lymington Town, Team Solent v Blackfield & Langley/Alresford Town, Winchester City v Southampton FC.
