AROUND 100 people gathered outside Southampton Guildhall last night in remembrance of the LBGTQ community who have lost their lives.

Members of charity Chrysalis and Southampton Solent University joined Southampton city councillor Cathie McEwing in lighting a candle and reading out a list of names.

Starting at The Art House, around 100 people gathered at the venue before reading names and speeches.

Andi Maratos, CEO of Chrysalis said: "These events are so important for the whole community and as a message to everybody.

"Southampton has always been a city of acceptance and we need to let people know that it's okay to be who you want, and to be who you are, because those are two different things."

City councillor McEwing said: "As mayor last year I know how important this message is and I want to support the whole community."

The event finished as members of the group visited the City Art Gallery's LGBTQ exhibition.
