RESIDENTS are being offered the chance to look at new plans to upgrade a congested Hampshire bottleneck.

Road bosses at Hampshire County Council are opening up a project to the public and businesses as they look to build on £130 million pound plans already announced by Highways England.

Junction 8 of the M27 is the subject of the national scheme that will see the Windhover Roundabout in Bursledon widened, and facilities improved for cyclists and pedestrians.

Now, the county council want to build on these plans by asking the public what changes they would like to see put in place on Hamble Lane and the northern section of the Windhover Roundabout and the Pound Road junction.

As part of this, they want to explore alternative travel choices for residents to ease peak travel times which puts Hamble Lane at 'maximum capacity' during commuter times.

Executive member for environment and transport, cllr Rob Humby, said: "We would like to engage with local people at this early stage, before work starts on developing proposals.

"By gaining a full understanding of the key issues, we can then put forward options that would make a positive impact and have the full support of the local community."

The council will be hosting three drop-in events for people to attend, with the first held at Pilands Wood Centre on Chamberlayne Road in Bursledon from 1pm until 7pm.

Cllr Humby added: "This project is being developed to complement the improvements being drawn up by Highways England.

"These enhancements were the subject of a recent public consultation in the area, with the aim of enabling traffic to flow smoothly around the whole area – now and in the future."

According to the council, it is too early to give a timeframe for the works, which addresses all aspects of the roads, and behavioural patterns of motorists.

The consultation will run from Monday 27 November until January 7, 2018.
