WINCHESTER City came out on top in a rollercoaster Evo-Stik South West encounter at home to Swindon Supermarine this evening.

Having fallen behind to a 15th-minute cross-shot from Connor Thompson, City saw the pendulum swing in their direction when Jamie Barron equalised with a penalty just before half-time.

Swindon were reduced to ten men straight after the break when Zak Westlake walked for a second bookable offence.

Oli Bailey – a former Supermarine player – soon punished his old club with a superb individual goal for 2-1.

But the understrength visitors hauled themselves back into it with a Josh Parsons free-kick before Barron struck again from the spot to seal a 3-2 City triumph.

The win hoists the Citizens up to sixth.

*SHOLING still have a grip on the Southampton Senior Cup….but only just.

The holders dug deep and scored twice in the last nine minutes at Brockenhurst to wipe a 2-0 deficit.

Dan Mason began the fightback with another audacious overhead kick on 81 minutes and, with tie two minutes into stoppage time, big brother Barry headed home Kev Brewster’s corner.

Keeper Ryan Gosney then played his part with three big shootout saves as the Boatmen squeezed through on penalties.

Sholing will now entertain neighbours Hamble Club who dumped out Bush Hill 3-1.

Blackfield & Langley will travel to Team Solent in the SSC quarter-finals after staging a home fightback against Alresford Town.

The Watersiders trailed to an Adam Pearson goal at the break, but Franklyn Clarke levelled matters with a 73rd-minute penalty before Sam Griffin settled matters with six minutes to go.

*TWO goals early in each half by Scott Hamilton pointed Fareham Town towards an emphatic 4-1 win over Gosport Borough in the Russell Cotes Cup.

He gave Fareham an eighth minute lead and doubled it early in the second half.

George Davis got Fareham’s third before Jordan Whiteley ignited a subdued Gosport with what turned out to me no more than a consolation goal.

Teenager Matt Simm netted Fareham’s fourth in stoppage time.

There was high drama at AFC Stoneham where the Sydenhams One underdogs came back from 2-0 and 3-2 down to beat Lymington Town on penalties.

Goals by Purples’ trio Sergio Caballero, Will Harris and Alex Welch had made it 3-3 at full-time.

Andover Town were the night’s other RCC winners, overcoming Bemerton Heath 4-2.

*AFC TOTTON were knocked out of the BigFreeBet.com Southern League Challenge Cup, narrowly beaten 1-0 at home by higher league Weymouth.

The Terras twice hit the woodwork after Pat Suraci had given them an 18th-minute lead, but Totton fought back strongly in the second half with Tony Lee having the pick of the chances.

*HAMWORTHY United stormed into the last eight of the Sydenhams League Cup with a 7-2 win at Verwood Town.

Former Winchester City striker Dan Cann led the way with a hat-trick, backed by Ollie Davis (2), Darren Watts and Nathan Walker. Matt Vining and George Richardson responded for the Potters.

Fawley AFC also progressed in the SL Cup at the expense of higher league hosts Shaftesbury. It was 0-0 at full-time and the Oilers left Cockrams 4-2 penalty shootout victors.

Lee Burch, Mark Lilley, Craig Shellard and Josh McPhee all scored from the spot, while Fawley 'keeper Jon Page made a crucial save.

Elsewhere Ian Saunders’ AFC Portchester won 4-1 at Horndean.

*TEAM Solent’s Sydenhams Premier Division revival was halted by a 4-0 home defeat against Newport IW on Monday.

The revitalised Islanders made it seven out of the last nine points thanks to goals from Scott Sampson, Charlie Urry, Josh Younie and Liam Triggs.
