FOR most, a handful of baubles and a dash of tinsel is enough to get into festive mood.

But for one Chandler’s Ford family, enough is never enough.

For the last 12 years, the Woodmans have been putting up thousands of Christmas lights across their home, helping bring Yuletide cheer to all who see it.

And following the success of last year’s lights - which helped raise hundreds for the Piam Brown ward at Southampton General Hospital - the illuminations will be back this December.

“We were absolutely shocked with the £715 we raised last year so we thought we’d get the lights out again and try and raise more this year,” dad Gary, a paint sprayer for the Arlington Fleet Group, in Eastleigh, said.

“We were looking to support another charity this year and decided to help the Rainbow Trust as my wife and I read some stories on the fantastic work it does to help people.”

Gary added: “We began putting the lights up in early November and this year bought an extra 5,000 lightbulbs. It’s looking good and we can’t wait to switch them on.”

The 34-year-old said he had spent thousands of pounds on the lights since he started setting them up.

People can donate by putting money in a bucket outside the Woodmans’ home in Cambridge Drive, Chandler’s Ford.

The lights will be switched on for the first time on December 1.

In 2015, a stranger even sent the family a Christmas card, stating that their lights made him happy on his way to work.

Father-of-two Gary added: “I am a big kid when it comes to Christmas. I love the Christmas spirit, everyone is in a good mood and are nicer - which is makes a change.

The father-of-two added: “We know the children love to watch the lights and it’s a delight for us to share the excitement of Christmas. It makes it fun for everyone so please come and visit.”
