A CHRISTMAS ice skating rink in Southampton has closed after the ice suddenly melted.
Ice Skate Southampton said it had "lost a lot of ice" following problems with a power generator during high winds on Wednesday.
A spokesperson for the group added that it was expected to reopen at 6.30pm this evening.
The rink, located in the new Public Plaza next to Westquay South, is open until January 2.
Meanwhile, owners of the ice rink at Winchester Cathedral showed no sympathy for their rival city's problems.
A posting on their Facebook page said: "Southampton ice rink closed this week? Oh no!
"Don't panic! You can still skate on Winchester Cathedral Ice Rink thanks to our spectacular wind resistant roof!"
