A MAN who a fire extinguisher to smash through a service station in a late-night burglary before throwing sick at the arresting officers has been given a suspended prison sentence.

Jordan Burnell, 22, used the extinguisher to break through double glass doors and stole two boxes of beer because the service station in Ringwood 'wasn't 24 hours'.

After being arrested, Southampton Magistrates Court heard how Burnell, who was previously convicted of 13 offences, scratched the arm of one police officer and then bit the trousers of another.

He was then sick in a bowl, and dipped tissue into the vomit before launching it an officer in the early hours of October 27.

Burnell, of Southcote Road, Bournemouth, pleaded guilty to one charge of theft and three counts of assaulting a constable on duty.

Defence solicitor Michael Stocken said: "He has a chequered history, perhaps to put it mildly.

"He does seem to have trouble realising the impact of the community order that he is currently on, but I am confident having spoken to him that he now sees that this is last chance saloon.

"He didn't give an explanation as to why he did it, I think half of the problem is that he has too much time on his hands."

Sentencing Burnell to a 16-week sentence, suspended for 12 months, Magistrate Haley Homer said: "You must see what you have done, but I'm not going to sentence you to custody today."

Burnell was also made to pay £85.20 compensation and £85 costs.
