MORE than one hundred Santas suited up to raise money in memory of girl who lost a battle with cancer.

The festive fun run followed a call from the girl's parents to not let her death be in vein.

Residents turned out in force at Chandler's Ford's 3D Health and Fitness centre for the start of the event, in memory on six-year-old Sophie Barringer, before jogging the 5km five kilometre course at Valley Park.

Sophie died just days before Christmas in 2004. The Norwood Primary School pupil was diagnosed with Wilm’s Disease in September 2003 and had to have major surgery to remove cancerous growths from her heart, liver and right kidney.

After Sophie lost her battle with cancer, her parents Lin and Mike Barringer set up the Sophie Barringer Trust Sophie’s Appeal to keep her memory alive and support ill children.

The money raised will be used to support children at hospitals in Southampton and Winchester.
