I NOTE from an article in the Echo on Wednesday that electric/hybrid cars may be exempt from paying the Itchen Bridge toll.
I say 'don't hold your breath'.
When the bridge was built, we residents who live on the east side of town were told the toll would be free when the bridge had been paid for.
Now 40 years on, the bridge –which cost 12 million to build – is still not paid for, having collected over 77 million in tolls.
They can't say it is maintenance costs as I have a nephew who used to work for the council and all they ever did was, once a year, clear out the pigeon nests from under the bridge.
Maybe we could have a breakdown of where all this money has gone.
I won't hold my breath on that question.
