PERFORMING arts students went down the rabbit hole with a “stunning” pantomime.

The young talent from City College took to the stage at the Hub Theatre with the characters from Lewis Carrol’s much-loved work Alice in Wonderland.

In a production which set imaginations running wild in a topsy-turvy world, the talented cast and crew wowed audiences with colourful costumes and creative scenery.

The production starred Cameron White as the essential pantomime dame Cookie, Aya Benyahya as the evil Queen of Hearts, and Abigail Dennis as Alice.

Students from creative subject areas worked together to create the production which was performed to hundreds of families, school children, college staff and students.

Production arts students developed, designed and built the entire set, props, lighting and sound. Theatrical hair and media make-up students styled and applied all of the character make-up and wigs. The show’s promotional photography was covered by photography students and special effects were filmed by media students.

Stepping up to the challenge of Production Manager was Rebecca Nye, 18, second year Level 3 Production Arts student. She said: “I am interested in stage management so to be given this important role has been an amazing experience and has confirmed that this is what I want to do as a career.

“Although it’s been a lot of hard work and very hectic at times, it’s been worth it to see everything come together - it’s a great feeling!”

Level 3 Performing Arts student, Cameron White, 17, took on the role of dame Cookie and said: “Being in the panto has been awesome! I like to portray humourous characters and fitting into the role of the panto dame was challenging but really fun to do.”
