A MAN was caught in his ex-partner’s cupboard in breach of a non-molestation order, a court heard.

Adam Steer was found by officers in his former girlfriend’s bedroom – a second breach of the order imposed by magistrates three months before.

The 27-year-old visited Chloe Wells on December 12 at her home in Southampton to give her money to buy presents for their children.

Sital Mond, prosecutor, said police had called at Ms Wells’ home to ask whether Steer was there.

She added: “Initially she didn’t tell them, but eventually told them he was in the cupboard in the bedroom.”

Susan Ridge, mitigating, told Southampton Magistrates’ Court: “It is for the children’s protection that he remains in contact with Miss Wells.”

“For that reason, he ended the relationship with her so she could keep the children.

“Because if he didn’t social services would have removed them from the home.”

Ms Ridge told the court that Steer currently lives in the Asda car park in Southampton but “wants to do what’s best for his children and knows he can’t keep breaching the order”.

However, the court heard that the probation service was “no longer willing to work with Steer” as he refused to attend sessions with them in Lymington.

She added: “He is a homeless man and happy to attend sessions with probation.

“There is an element of chaos with his life, which is the story for so many homeless people.”

The court heard that Steer had also breached a conditional discharge which was given to him after he damaged the rear windscreen of a car in Blackfield earlier this year.

In sentencing, magistrates said: “You have breached this order twice.

“This is an opportunity for you.

“If you do not take this opportunity, I cannot promise you get the same level of understanding as you have done today.

“If you do not sort this out you will know what will happen.”

Steer, of no fixed address, was given a new community order which will last for a total of 15 months.

Within that he will be required to complete 25 rehabilitation activity requirement days.
