THE beautiful festive display that lights up a New Forest street every Christmas has been named the best display in Britain - winning £10,000 in the process for the charities it supports. The Byron Road Christmas lights came out on top of the national competition judged by pantomime actor Christopher Biggins.

The display in New Milton has been running for 13 years and previously grabbed headlines for featuring in Cadbury’s Christmas advert in 2016.

The lights organised by resident Ged Hollyoake and it is estimated that with the competition prize the display will have raise around £70,000 for local causes since it first started. The chosen charities for this year are Community First Responders and the Fortune Centre of Riding Therapy. Choosing the Byron Road display, Mr Biggins said: “For me this year, though, there’s one street that just pips the rest..”

This year the lights were turned on by Meridian TV weather presenter Holly Green and Undateables star, Shaine Singer.
