THEY ARE literally jumping for joy - despite the huge challenge that lies ahead.

Two Hampshire men planning to row the Atlantic are unable to contain their excitement as they begin the final countdown to the start of their epic 3,000-mile voyage.

They have told wellwishers: “We cannot wait to go.”

Dubbed the Ocean Brothers, Jude Massey, 18, and his half-brother, Dr Greg Bailey, are determined to raise £100,000 in the battle against skin cancer after losing their father to the disease.

They have flown out to Gran Canaria to complete their training ahead of the gruelling crossing, which is due to start on January 15.

The Lymington-based duo are making a film as well as putting their tiny 20ft boat through its paces.

One of their posts on social media says: “We’re out before sunrise, getting lots of footage for our documentary as well as getting some rowing in.

“The winds are not allowing us to row in the day at the moment so we have to get out as early as we can while the winds are light.

“It honestly feels like a dream, surrounded by Atlantic waters with the early rays on the boat.

“We cannot wait to go.”

Another post says: “Every day is packed with new adventures, challenges and accomplishments.”

Shortly before flying out from Gatwick airport the brothers told wellwishers: “Anything is possible with belief, unwavering faith, and certainty in your dreams.

“Those who have given so generously in all forms to make our dreams become a reality are our heroes.

“Thanks to each and every one of you.”

As reported in the Daily Echo, the brothers have already raised more than half the £100,000 they aim to secure for the British Skin Foundation.

Their voyage from Gran Canaria to Barbados is being staged in memory of Hampshire sailor Peter Massey - Jude’s father and Greg’s stepfather - who died of skin cancer in 2015.

An auction at a recent fundraising gala was conducted by Manley Hopkinson, a skipper in the 2000 BT Global Challenge round-the-world yacht race.

Manley, of Lymington, said: “The atmosphere was one of overwhelming support for the guys.

“We are all very proud to be a part of the voyage and looking forward to organising a big celebration for them after its completion.”
