SOUTHAMPTON adrenaline junkies have another chance to try the world's largest inflatable assault course - and could reach speeds of up to 40mph on a slide.

People from across the city looking to test their physical abilities will now have their chance to take on a variety of enormous inflatable obstacles when it returns to the city for the third time in a row.

Now Southampton Common will see the return of Gung Ho’s Seriously Fun 5K on Saturday, July 21 and more than 5,000 people are expected to take part.

The course features a variety of thrillseeking obstacles which include giant mazes, walls, gauntlets, slides with all of them expected to be filled with enough air to inflate more than 75 million footballs.

The brains behind the event Alex Winters, a former Cbeebies presenter who came up with the idea while watching an episode of Ninja Warrior back in 2014.

He said: “I grew up watching some of the great, classic TV shows of yesteryear like Fun House, It’s a Knockout and Gladiators.

“Like many others, I dreamed of taking part in something like that, but never got the chance! Now I am giving the people of Hampshire the chance to roll back the years and act like a kid again!

“This will be a day out like no other. Anybody of any shape or size will be able to get around the course and we guarantee they will have an absolute blast in the process.

“We promise fun, thrills and spills for everyone taking part. We know Hampshire can really go Gung-Ho! after our last visit. Let’s see if they can go even more Gung-Ho! in 2018!”

‘Gung-Ho’ comes from a Chinese word meaning to “work together” and was later used by the US army as a battle cry to show an expression of spirit they needed before going to war.

Alex founded Gung Ho! back in 2014 while was sat in front of the TV watching Ninja Warrior with his three children.

Consequently, that sparked a new craze with thousands taking part in Gung-Ho!’s first three events in 2015, before the tour this year that featured Southampton as one of its stops.

Thousands of pounds are also expected to be raised for good causes with many runners taking part for charity this year.

To participate, runners must be at least four feet tall with tickets and more information available at begung-ho.co.uk.
