IT is one of the most iconic scenes in film history.

Jack and Rose embracing on the bow of the Titanic is a movie great.

And now visitors to Southampton city centre will have the chance to recreate the scene made famous by Leonardo DiCaprio and Kate Winslet.

This weekend a replica bow of the Titanic is to be put on display outside a Southampton shopping centre.

Westquay bosses are to place the small-scale replica bow on the Esplanade to mark the 20th anniversary of the film depicting the ship's tale as it sank after colliding with an ice berg on April 14, 1912 after setting sail from Southampton.

The bow will be located in front of the old city walls, where members of the public will be able to recreate the famous scene by Jack and Rose.

Couples from Hampshire sharing the same names as the couple are also invited to put their names forward in a competition.

The James Cameron epic, which won ten Oscars, is being screened at Showcase Cinema at Westquay on Saturday and Sunday from 11am this weekend.

Westquay general manager, Andy Collyer, said: "The Titanic marks itself as an incredible part of history for the city.

"It soon became one of the most iconic and loved films, which gives us great pleasure to be able to host this 20th anniversary celebration of the blockbuster, while giving the public the chance to recreate the famous scene of Jack and Rose."

The bow itself will be in position from Friday until Saturday (Jan 27).

Earlier this year, the plaques honouring Southampton's victims and survivors were revealed as they could be placed around the city.

A possible 230 plaques could be placed on the buildings where they lived at the time of the tragedy – in which 540 Southampton residents died.

For couples to enter the competition, they must message Westquay on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram using the hashtag #PoseLikeRose.
