A POPULAR BBC debate show, about ethics and faith, will be filmed live from a Southampton school this weekend.

The Big Questions will be broadcast from Oasis Academy, Lord’s Hill, on Sunday.

The show, hosted by presenter Nicky Campbell, is the BBC’s flagship religious, ethical and moral debate programme.

It is loosely based on BBC1’s political discussion show, Question Time, though it also contains elements that are more familiar to daytime chat shows.

Panellists in the past have included notable atheist Richard Dawkins, MP and convert to Roman Catholicism, Ann Widdecombe and Muslim commentator Mohammed Ansar.

The show will be broadcast live on BBC One from Lord’s Hill Academy from 10am.

Founder of Oasis, Steve Chalke MBE, said: “As a youth worker, church leader and educationalist I’ve spent my adult life encouraging people to ask the big questions.

“Debate is a vital ingredient of every healthy democracy.

“I’ve occasionally had the pleasure of being on the Big Questions myself, and am really pleased that the show is being hosted by our academy at Lord’s Hill.

“I know that Nicky Campbell will, as ever, chair a powerful and positive discussion which adds depth and clarity to our national conversation.”

Executive principal of Oasis Mayfield and Lord’s Hill Academies, Phil Humphreys, said: “The academy prides itself on being at the heart of our community and by hosting the ‘Big Question’ we are doing exactly that.

“Freedom of voice, equality and celebration of who we are as individuals is core to the beliefs of Oasis.

“We are always happy to support the facilitation of conversations that help shape a deeper understanding of the society we live in and help our students explore the world we live in.
