A MUCH-loved Southampton student nightclub is up for sale.

The current owners of Clowns-Jesters are looking to sell up.

The property has been advertised on Rightmove waiting for offers from potential buyers in the region of £1.6 million, marketed by Charles Carr Estate Agents in Bitterne.

A spokesperson for Charles Carr confirmed the property was put on the market this week.

The club currently opens 32 weeks of the year, mainly during student term times and hosts a variety of popular student nights for both Solent and University of Southampton students with drink prices as cheap as 50-60p.

This, the owners, say generates around £500,000 per annum.

It is also dubbed the ‘Place of Dreams” by students from across the city.

The Daily Echo attempted to contact Clowns and Jesters for comment but did not receive a response at the time of going to press.

Ward councillor Jacqui Rayment, said: “The loss of any nighttime venue is always sad especially one as long established as Clowns and Jesters but I am sure that the local residents will see this as a positive move.”

Owner Lynda Green and her husband first opened Clowns in 1987 before buying Jesters two years later.

Originally, a middle-aged drinkers’ bar, the venue was then targeted towards the student market and has since been a success to students across the city.

The premises has been added to over the years by the current owners, but is now being sold as a job lot freehold unit. Originally, the premises was four individual townhouses.

The current owners on Rightmove also added that the first floor and second floor had received limited attention over the years.
