Two men were held at knife-point by a gang of men before being attacked after they tried to escape in a Southampton street.

Police have launched an investigation after a group of six men approached two men, aged 23 and 24, late on Wednesday night.

One member threatened the men with the blade and demanded goods.

When they tried to escape, one of the men was caught, and attacked before having his phone and cash stolen.

Police are looking for witnesses to the attack, which happened on English Road, Freemantle, at around 10.40pm.

The group have been described as white, in their late teens or early twenties, wearing hooded tops.

The man with the knife was described as being 6ft 3ins tall and stocky, while the rest of the group are described as slim.

Detective Constable David Jackson said: "We would like to hear from anyone who witnessed this incident, and anyone who can help us identify the group responsible."
