CHICKEN lovers have complained after reports some branches of KFC were closed due to them running out of meat.

Hungry readers contacted the Daily Echo yesterday to say the Millbrook branch of the takeaway restaurant was closed.

It came as KFC tweeted it had difficulties getting fresh chicken out to 900 of its restaurants.

The Daily Echo this morning phoned all 11 KFC branches in the area to ask if they had had to close or if they had experienced any chicken supply issues.

Eight did not answer – Eastleigh, Hythe, Westquay, Portswood Road, Winchester, Hedge End, Gosport and Sholing – while Fareham, Above Bar and Millbrook answered but declined to comment.

Yesterday, the US giant's regional Twitter feed posted "The Colonel is working on it", and a message reporting that the firm had experienced "teething problems" with a new delivery firm.

"Getting fresh chicken out to 900 restaurants across the country is pretty complex," the statement said.

"We won't compromise on quality, so no deliveries has meant some of our restaurants are closed, and others are operating a limited menu, or shortened hours.

"Shout out to our restaurant teams who are working flat out to get us back up and running again."
