LODDON VALE were crowned Wessex League champions after they beat title rivals West Berks 82-64.

It was not looking promising for Loddon during the first half of the game with the home rinks only holding their own and the away rinks struggling.

However, the second half of the game was completely different, especially on Steve Shaw’s rink at West Berks where they turned a 10 shot deficit to a six shot win.

With both home rinks of Geoff Green and Gary Lovett coming through to win as well, Loddon won the match and 14 points to clinch the title.

In the Bramley Trophy Loddon title hopes vanish as they lost their top of the table clash with Chawton Park 110-60.

Rink scores at home Green 15-20, Ashley Nethercliffe 21-23 and away Peter Read 9 - 31, Ian Laming 15 – 36.

The rink of Jim Rainbow, Jeff White, John Holmes and Gary Lovett have reached the final of the London and Southern Counties fours competition after beating St Neots.

The team of Duncan Rogers, Steve Shaw and Trevor Morgan reached the Area Final of the National Over 50’s Triples after beating Bournemouth in the zone final.

Duncan Rogers went out of the National Singles in the zone final to Chawton Park’s Adam White.

In the County competitions there were wins for both the rink and triples skipped by Trevor Morgan, but unfortunately he lost the pairs. Gary Lovett and Duncan Rogers are still in the singles. There was also a win for Gary Lovett in the mixed pairs with his teenage daughter Alice.

Basingstoke Town saw Loddon Vale lost 142-78 to Basingstoke Town in a friendly. Top rink on the day, was Jim Day, Margot Edwards, Bernie Rouse and Fred Goddard.

In Sunday’s friendly, Loddon lost to Riverside 128-98 with their top rink being Sue Saunders, Lily New, Ian Gourlay, Steve Devonish.
