A Southampton art student has sold her first piece of work.

Saskia Vickery, a BTEC Foundation Diploma in Art and Design student at Totton College, was exhibiting the tapestry as part of an show by students at the Calmore Road site when it caught the eye of art buyer and charity worker Fran Lazarski.

With its message of hope and wellbeing, Ms Lazarski - who runs art therapy charity hArt - said the embroidery piece fit in with the ethos of her work. She said: "I came for a meeting and saw it on the wall, and it really stayed with me. It's really what the hArt charity is all about - that people can manage their health and wellbeing through art. It's a really powerful affirmation.

"And I was so blown away by the creative talent of the young people that I had to get it.

"It will be a good thing for Saskia and for us as well. It's about taking each day at a time.

The piece reads, 'Breathe, it's just a bad day, not a bad life." Saskia is going on Solent University to study fine art and will start her degree course in September.

It's the first time the charity has bought a piece of work from a student.
