A WINCHESTER man was found dead in his flat after neighbours noticed a strong smell coming from his flat, an inquest heard.
Christopher Cawley, 71, was discovered sat in his armchair at his King Alfred Place home by police after neighbours called on July 13.
Winchester Coroner's Court heard that Mr Cawley was last seen by neighbour Melanie Shattock around three weeks before his body was discovered, although it is not known exactly when he died. Mrs Shattock added that he was a "very private man" and an "alcoholic".
Recording a conclusion of death due to natural causes, assistant coroner Simon Burge said that due to Mr Cawley's age, health records, and way he was found, it was more likely than not that he died naturally.
