A MAN went on an eight-month reign of terror by egging his neighbour’s house on an almost daily basis.

Stephen Harwood launched eggs at the neighbour’s property in Evergreen Close, Marchwood, with hundreds being thrown at it in total.

The 32-year-old left the “vulnerable” victim fearful after he was subjected to the prolonged period of abuse.

Southampton Magistrates’ Court heard that between June 2017 and February 2018, Harwood would go past the victim’s house nearly every day and throw eggs at their home and car.

In most situations he would throw a couple at a time.

The court was told that in one instance on February 13, Harwood damaged the painted exterior of the property wall, causing £50 worth of damage, due to staining and discolouration

Police confirmed that the victim’s car sustained dents to its bodywork, and paint on the vehicle was scratched.

Harwood, of Evergreen Close, pleaded guilty to causing criminal damage and harassment without violence on March 8 when his case first appeared before the magistrates.

He was ordered to carry out 150 hours of unpaid work, attend 10 days’ rehabilitation activity requirement as well as pay £250 compensation to the victim and £85 costs.

A restraining order was made to protect the victim, which means Harwood is not permitted to go to the victim’s address or to contact him directly or indirectly.

Sergeant Oliver Battersby from the Waterside Neighbourhood Policing Team said: “This case has seen a vulnerable victim suffer harassment and distress over a prolonged period of time. Police Community Support Officer Howard Oakley has provided him with ongoing support throughout and this outcome has shown the benefits of good neighbourhood based policing.”
