PLANS have been unveiled for a popular pub after it closed suddenly at the beginning of the year.

This paper can reveal the Netley Grange in Netley Abbey has been bought by Southampton-based company Questmap.

The firm has confirmed its intention to create a smaller pub or restaurant on the site, while the rest of the building could be turned into housing.

The project is still at an early stage and the company said a pre-planning application consultation was under way.

Peter Harding, from Questmap, said: “The intention will be to retain it with a smaller pub or restaurant on the site that becomes viable for a suitable business from which to operate.

“Clearly the community would wish to retain a licensed premises in this location. The remainder of the building will be converted into family housing.”

Mr Harding said that plans are being discussed with Eastleigh Borough Council and Hound Parish Council. He added: “As soon as it is agreed, progress will commence with immediate effect.

“It is fair to say that as this is an existing building then there is no changes to what is already built.”

As previously reported, the pub opened more than 20 years ago.

David Airey, borough councillor for Netley Abbey ward, said: “The planning application isn’t with us yet but Hound Parish Council has been notified about this intention.

“I am always sad to see pubs closing so I would welcome seeing a pub re-open.”

The purchase price has not been revealed.
