I have been bemused by the adulation that Cllr Rayment seems to have heaped upon herself for ‘keeping Southampton moving’ during the recent snow fall.
Without doubt many people worked very hard in difficult conditions but the plan devised by Cllr Rayment to ‘keep Southampton moving’ did not work.
Southampton was grid-locked. I drove (in order to take staff home) from Sholing to Shirley to Shirley Warren to Regents Park to Sholing from 3.45pm to 9.30pm.
Five and three quarter hours covering over 25 roads and I did not see one single road that looked as if it had been snow-ploughed, and all that time it was total and utter gridlock.
Whether Cllr Rayment was unaware of the total chaos on the roads I don’t know. What I do know is that if we are to keep Southampton moving during future bad weather then her response needs to be better.
