The highly revered 10K road race hits the streets of Eastleigh again tomorrow, so the Daily Echo looks back at when the event was 10-years-old.
On March 20, 1994, more than 1,000 athletes ran through the streets of the railway town - cheered on by the thronging crowds who lined the roadsides.
Runners came from as far afield as Manchester, Wales, Exeter, the Midlands and France, as well as from local clubs including Eastleigh Running Club and the Southampton City Athletics Club, organiser of the adult race.
Steve Collins of Eastleigh Borough Council told the Echo at the time: “The thing that makes this event so popular is that it attracts runners from all quarters - a bit like the London Marathon.
“As well as those who hare round in under 30 minutes , there are those who are there to take a long, leisurely run around the course, just happy to finish so they can collect some sponsor money for their chosen cause.”
The first athlete home was Dave Burke, while the quickest woman was Alison Wyeth
