A STUDENT celebrating her A-level results was raped by a man whose co-defendant provided the "venue", a court was told.

The 18-year-old was attacked in a house owned by the parents of one of two men arrested in connection with the incident in 2016, jurors heard.

She later ran barefoot from the house in Derby Road, Southampton, and sought help at the nearby Royal South Hants Hospital, it was alleged.

Abdi Mahamed, 21, of Tennyson Road, Southampton, is accused of rape, and Safaraz Khan, 20, of Derby Road, is accused of assisting an offender.

Both deny the allegations against them.

Opening the prosecution case at Southampton Crown Court, Andrew Houston said the alleged victim, now 19, went into the city centre to celebrate her exam results.

He added: "What should have been a night of celebration turned into a night on which she was raped and ended up wandering the streets of St Mary's looking for help."

Mr Houston said the alleged rape took place in a house owned by Khan's parents, who were away.

He added: "Khan provided the venue.

"He carried her into the building and helped carry her upstairs to the bedroom, believing a rape would be committed that night."

Mr Houston said the student had consumed a large amount of alcohol and was too drunk to consent to sex.

A blood sample analysed by a toxicologist showed she would have been at least twice the legal drink-drive limit, the court heard.

The jury was shown CCTV footage which, according to the prosecution, showed her slumped on the ground outside the Oceana nightclub earlier in the evening.

Mr Houston said two women saw her being helped up by two men, who walked her to a nearby car.

He added: "She remembers a house and being taken upstairs. She also remembers screaming and running outside barefoot before seeking help at the Royal South Hants Hospital, which was nearby."

Mr Houston said the two defendants were later arrested, with Khan taking officers to the house where the alleged rape took place.

He added that the student's DNA was found on a mattress and a pillow case at the property.

The trial continues.
