Firefighters have said an investigation has begun this morning into the cause of the fire at the Potters Heron Hotel in Ampfield.
Around 120 firefighters fought to save the building, near Romsey, last night after a blaze broke out at 6pm.
It is believed it began in the chimney.
A Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service spokesperson said: "Our investigation team will be visiting it this morning to begin.
"Of course it's too early to tell at the moment what the cause is, but last night it was thought to be the chimney.
"We will know more later today."
