DOZENS of youngsters flocked to Southampton to showcase their musical talent.

Students from across the county performed at Richard Taunton Sixth Form College on Wednesday in a bid to be selected to perform at the national Music for Youth national festival set to take place in Birmingham in July.

The initiative celebrates the creation of new music by some of the most diverse and talented young musicians from across the country.

The Hampshire youngsters who will be selected will perform live on the New Music Stage this summer and will also benefit from expert advice from professional musicians, composers and music educators.

This year four groups from Richard Taunton including production choir, a capella singers, jazz combo and rock band performed alongside 17 different music acts from 12 different schools, colleges and music hubs across

Hampshire including Wyvern Soul Band, Wyvern Chamber Choir and Romsey Youth Children's Choir.
