HUNDREDS of visitors made their way to Westquay for the shopping centre’s latest outdoors attraction.

A giant maze had kids and adults weaving their way around the Esplanade in a mission to get out of the labyrinth as quickly as possible.

And with more than 501 enthusiasts making their way down on the first day it’s clear that the privet puzzle has already proven popular.

As reported it spans 9,000-square feet, with a choice of routes inside and has been fully constructed using real hedges, which stand at almost eight-feet tall and take their place against the backdrop of the Old City Walls.

It’s the latest in a line of attractions brought in to increase footfall to the Esplanade.

February saw thousands of families make their way to the area for a Festival of Light, while Titanic fans took selfies on board a replica ship.

And last summer Wimbledon fans flocked to take a seat on the oversized deckchairs and bean bags to watch their favourite tennis stars battle it out on a big open air screen.

Now events organisers are urging visitors to download the free Westquay Plus app - which gives visitors the chance to grab a free ice cream when they’ve found their way out.

Little Emily Alford loved the attraction, and dragged mum and dad Angie and Matt round three times - before helping Echo reporter Rachel Adams find the exit. She said: “It’s amazing -but it’s not that hard to find your way out!”

The hide-and-seek hedges will be in situ until April 22.
