A CHICKEN shop worker was sprayed in the face with a "noxious substance" during a raid at a Southampton KFC.

The man, in his 20s, was hit by the substance during an attempted robbery at the chicken chain's Bursledon Road restaurant.

Police are testing the liquid, which they are currently describing as an "unknown" substance.

Officers say the victim suffered minor injuries, including a rash-like "reaction".

They have ruled out the possibility of an acid attack.

A hazardous area response team and paramedics from South Central Ambulance Service rushed to the incident, which took place last night at 8.45pm.

Crews from Hightown and Winchester fire stations also attended the scene.

Police say enquiries are currently ongoing.

No one has been arrested at this time.
