THE Fleming Arms, previously a Beefeater now Hungry Horse, dates back to the 1850s when it was one of three public houses named the Fleming Arms on the Stoneham Estate.

The pub is close to Swaythling railway station and the Monks Brook river.

Inside, the lower dining area, which is for the over-18s to enjoy, has recently undergone a £10,000 facelift.

There is a pool table, darts board and several TV screens around the restaurant.

Doors have been installed to separate the Sports Bar from the general bar which has pleased the regular drinkers and sport enthusiasts.

The sports viewing area has been enhanced with high-quality sounds systems while the upstairs dining area is family friendly with TVs in the booth seating.

The pub's best sellers include the Chicken New Yorker, the chicken mix and the pub's highly praised fish and chips.

Green King ale is the pubs best-selling drink followed by Carling.

David Coleman, assistant manager, 31 has been at the Fleming Arms for four months but has worked for Green King for more than a decade in pub all over Hampshire.

He said: “I think everyone’s really surprised how nice it is in here, it’s a really great local pub. Most of our customers are regular customers who keep coming back

“Hungry Horse is all about sending out good food at good prices and we are great for value.

“The pub has lots of different promotions on food every day. On Mondays kids eat for a pound. Tuesdays is our Big plate special night, which is priced at £ 6 rather than £9. Wednesday is our free drink with every curry offer. Thursday’s customers can order a free starter and dessert with their meal. Friday’s is our buy-one-get-one-free promotion on burgers. Saturday, we offer two courses for £9 and on Sunday, customers can order two roasts for just £10.

“Since the refurbishment the pub is back and better than ever. We recently won an award for best development which we are proud of.

“The pub caters to a complete range of customers from families with young children to students who live across the road."

“We’re located right on the river Monks Brook, which is a lovely walk on a day that’s not raining.

“We show all major sporting events. Any sporting event always draws in a good crowd. We had a great atmosphere for the rugby world cup made up from our local Stoneham rugby team who make our pub their home.”
