A SOUTHAMPTON university will be transformed into the nerve centre of this year’s ABP Southampton Marathon.

Solent University’s Sir James Matthews building, on Guildhall Square, will become the race headquarters on Sunday.

It will host organisers, members of the media and VIPs on event day.

Staff and students will also take part in the run, with many benefitting from discount or free entry due the university’s partnership with race organisers.

Solent vice-chancellor professor Graham Baldwin said: “The ABP Southampton Marathon is one of Southampton’s major sporting events with thousands taking part each year, including staff and students from the university.

“It is great to be supporting as the official education partner for the third year.”
