FRIENDS and family gathered to celebrate the life and work of a popular Southampton artist.

Rosy Maguire was a photographer and musician who tragically died after falling from the Itchen Bridge in February - prompting thousands of people to sign a petition calling for safety measures to be put in place on the bridge.

This spring's 'Behind the Blue Door' event - which Rosy helped set up in April 2016 - was organised as a chance for people to see her work.

A book to remember the 59 year old Solent University technician has been put together as well as a secret auction of local artists' work.

Money raised will go towards Maytree Charity as well as towards funds for a wall of climbing roses in the Outer Avenue area of Southampton - where Rosy spent time helping to keep clean with frequent litter-picks.

Blue Door Estate Agent director Rachel Simpson said: "She was known by so many people in the city through her work at Solent Uni, her music with Atlantico, her tireless litter picking in Outer Avenue with OARA and so many more small ways as she was always keen to bring people together and such a welcoming smile and laugh.

"She was always so nurturing and caring and supportive of young artists, musicians, and photographers. She was a very community-minded person.

"There were at least 400 people at her memorial at the Crematorium who all remembered her with love and we do to."

Pieces for the exhibition have been loaned from Rosy's friends and neighbours.

The exhibition opens on April 20 from 6-9pm and is open on April 21 and 22 from 10am until 4pm at 102 Lodge Road
