IT WAS one of the most colourful events seen in Southampton so far this year.

Members of the Indian Society at the University of Southampton celebrated Holi Hai - also known as the Festival of Colours.

More than 180 people took part in the event, part of which involved students throwing coloured powder over each other.

Holi Hai is an Indian and Nepalese spring festival that is celebrated across the Indian sub-continent and several other countries around the world.

It signifies the triumph of good over evil and the end of winter. Many also see it as a day to meet others, play and laugh and repair broken relationships.

One of the organisers of the Southampton event said: "It was a cultural festival that brought people together.

"People threw coloured powder over each other, which was something done just for fun. There was also music, dancing and water fights."
