Heart Research UK and the Subway are bringing their popular series of fun runs back to Southampton
The Subway Helping Hearts Family 5k fun run will once again take place at Southampton Common on Sunday, April 29.
Last year’s run which saw more than 1,000 amateur runners take part in the event.
The 5k series includes a twist on the traditional 5k run called the “Field of Fresh” challenge which sees participants tackle a giant inflatable obstacles course, inspired by the Subway menu 500m before the finish line.
Those not wishing to bounce through to the finish line can instead follow the traditional 5k route.
Those participating in the event can also relax in the Family Village, open from 10.30am, it features free entertainment including face-painting, music, games and more inflatable fun for children.
Children under 12 can participate for free with everyone else paying £8 if they register online in advance or £10 on the day.
This includes a free t-shirt, a free lunch from Subway, a finisher’s medal and access to the Family Village.
All sponsorship money raised by runners go towards the Heart Research UK and Subway Healthy Heart grant scheme. This initiative provides up to £10,000 each to local projects across the UK, including in the Meridian region, that actively promotes helping heart health in the community.
Sacha Clark, Marketing Director for the Subway in UK and Ireland, said: “We are delighted to announce that the Subway Helping Hearts Family 5K series is returning for 2018, in aid of our partner Heart Research UK.
“It’s fantastic to see the series growing, and we cannot wait to see more families supporting healthy heart programmes in their communities. The Subway brand is committed to encouraging a healthy lifestyle, and the series provides a great way for families to participate together.”
Barbara Harpham, Chief Executive of Heart Research UK, said “The Subway Helping Hearts Family 5K fun run series is the perfect way to improve both your heart health and your community’s, whilst having fun with your friends and family. Sign up today and come and join us for a fun day out at Southampton Common. We’ll see you at the start line. Ready, steady, go!”
