PUPILS are celebrating their entrepreneurial spirit after they raised more than £1,000.

The year six youngsters from Beechwood Junior School raised the cash for a trip to the theatre.

The youngsters raised the cash through a series of events including sponsored runs and raffles, squash sales, making friendship bracelets, biscuit decorating and penalty shootouts.

Now they will be making their way to the Mayflower Theatre to see hit musical War Horse.

Head of year six Katie Furby said: “I’m very proud of them and they are of themselves - as they should be. We haven’t done anything to help them - they’ve done it all themselves. “We are doing WWII as a topic so the play fits in nicely.

“To get the coach from Bitterne to Southampton costs £690.”

The children will use the rest of their hard-earned cash to put on their end of year play. Their performance of We Will Rock You will take to City College’s The Hub theatre stage in July this year.

As reported the pupils worked with Solent University to put on a version of Greek play Odysseus at the East Park Terrace Spark venue earlier this year.
