A HAMPSHIRE man died after a fall at his New Forest home, an inquest heard.
John Tree was putting the rubbish out on the evening of January 14 when he stumbled, resulting in internal bleeding.
The 81-year-old, of New Inn Lane, Bartley, near Cadnam, was taken to Southampton General Hospital but died from his injuries a few days later on January 16.
Winchester Coroner's Court heard how Mr Tree had been living independently, but had previously suffered a number of falls.
Mr Tree's GP, Dr Detsios of Forest Gate Surgery, Totton, told the inquest that he had been diagnosed with liver problems in 2015, which made him unstable.
His son, David Tree, described him as "stoic" and questioned, due to his medical history, whether Southampton General Hospital should have discharged his father when he withdrew consent for treatment.
He also told the inquest that it took 90 minutes for an ambulance to arrive following the fall.
Representatives from Southampton General Hospital and South Central Ambulance Service were not present at the inquest.
Senior coroner Graham Short recorded a conclusion of accidental death.
