Police at scene of Albion Towers, Southampton, as safety grows over a man on the edge of a window

Armed officers descended on Albion Towers, in St Mary's, in a bid to contain the scene.

Those at the scene say a man is on the edge of a window about halfway up the building.

There are around ten police vehicles currently at the scene.

Hampshire Constabulary said: "We are currently dealing with a concern for the welfare of a man at an address in Albion Towers, Golden Grove.

"The incident is contained and officers are on scene."

The spokesperson added: "On the basis of the information provided to us, a decision was made to deploy armed officers to the scene, however they have now been stood down.

"Police dogs were also deployed to the scene."

Albion Towers is the 17th highest building in the city, standing at 46m high.

It has 16 floors and was built in 1965.

Earlier this year, the council controversially painted Albion Towers in the iconic colours red and white of the city's football club.
