A FOOTBALL fanatic is gearing up to play his final charity match in front of an audience of hundreds.

Lifelong Saints supporter David Evans and his veteran team will take to the pitch at St Mary's stadium on Friday.

The match, organised by Mr Evans, 56, is in aid of the Saints Foundation and Wave 105 Cash for Kids.

He wanted "to go out with a bang" after organising and participating in a series of charity football matches with his five-a-side team.

Mr Evans said: “This year I wanted to go out with a bang, there will be a signed 2018 Saints t-shirt and signed football by all the Saints players which will be among the prizes you can win by entering the raffle.”

Double gold medallist from the Invictus Games, Luke Sinnott, will be drawing the raffle prizes at full time.

He said: “My players will each pay in equal share for the cost of playing at St Mary’s Stadium. If I Sell all the 1000 tickets on sale we’re going to raise at least £5,000.”

He added: “I’m just a football fanatic trying to give something back to the game.”

Samantha Tanner, Charity Manager for Wave 105 Cash for Kids said:“A huge thank you to David for arranging this veterans football match raising money as part of Wave 105 Cash for Kids Superhero Day. It should be a great evening out for all the family – not only will it raise money for two local harities but it will also give spectators the opportunity to cheer for their favourite team – The Superheroes or the Mere Mortals!"

Raffle tickets are £1 and tickets are £5. The match will be held on May 18 with kick-off at 7.45pm.
