FOOD lovers in Southampton will once again be able to dine with a view as a New Forest company looks to launch its very first restaurant flight – 100ft in the air.

Tables, chairs, staff and chefs will all be suspended in the air next month after The Dine High Club took inspiration from Southampton in the Sky, which offered a similar experience in September last year.

The company, based in Cadnam, is the brainchild of organisers Austin Thompson and Andy Picken, and was only registered at the start of 2018.

The pair said they took the inspiration from the experience last year, but wanted to provide a “circus twist”.

The vessel, suspended on a crane, hosts six tables where couples and groups can share their dining experience.

Each flight consists of welcome drinks at a VIP gravity bar which will be held in the square at Southampton Guildhall.

That bar, which provides the twist, will have cabaret performances, live music and circus performers.

Diners will then be lifted in the vessel at the onsite crane where diners complete their experience watching the sun set.

The flight in Southampton, starting towards the end of June, will be the company’s first ever departure.

Organiser Andy Picken said: “We had the idea last year and wanted to provide it for a bit cheaper than the event last year, and give it a bit of a circus twist.

“There will be live music and a range of entertainment.

“It will be our first flight, but we have been organising this for a long time so everything should be nice and smooth.

“Last year was our inspiration, it’s something totally unique.”

The company will be putting on breakfast and fine dining, with breakfast priced at £48 per person and fine dining with drinks costing £98 each.

The first flights will begin at 8.15am and the final flight setting off at 8.15pm. The breakfast sessions last for 30 minutes, with a fine dining experience lasting for an hour.

Involved in the experience will be Master Chef finalist Tom Peters, and Jamie Thompson, owner of Jamie Thompson Catering, a former head-chef.

The debut flight will take place on June 26.

Last year, more than 1,200 people took the opportunity to experience the height of fine dining with Events in the Sky.

Organiser Dale Agar said that the company was aiming to return this year, after saying Southampton was “a special city”.

He said: “It’s now a very special city for us and we’d like to come back.”
