A NEW complex of homes could be built in Lordshill after an application was put forward to Southampton City Council.

Submitted by Sovereign Housing Association, the proposal is to build 29 new affordable homes at the disused council-owned site at Brownhill House.

The application comes after a public consultation in November 2017 and will comprise of a mix of houses, flats and maisonettes, which will be available for both affordable rent and shared ownership.

The plan was drawn up by MH Architects,

Rosie Matthews, Project Manager for Sovereign, said the plans were "quite unusual" as all of the homes will have their own front door on street level, giving people a feeling of privacy.

She added: "The ground floor flats also have their own private rear garden and the maisonettes will have balconies.

"One of the flats will be built to suit a family with additional mobility requirements, as it will have a graded floor shower and improved accessibility throughout.

"There will also be a communal space at the rear of the site, where we will create an ecology zone to enhance the area and encourage wildlife."

Sovereign owns approximately 1,000 homes in the city and works closely with Southampton City Council on the provision of affordable housing.

The plan will be considered by the city council and people can voice support or objections to the scheme online.

Councillor Christopher Hammond, leader of the city council, said: "This development by Sovereign Housing Association is another example of the council working with partners to bring forward the development of city sites and accelerate the delivery of affordable housing for local residents."

If successful, work should begin on-site in autumn 2018 and be completed early in 2020.
