A HAMPSHIRE town is preparing to be "art bombed" in the run up to a popular festival with some incredible creations.

Local artists Allison Caddell, Carol Farley, Juliet Smith and Catherine Ovenden are reimagining world famous works of art - onto tiny rocks.

The miniature pebbles will then be hidden around Totton for anyone to find, in the hope that the little creations will inspire residents to learn more about the famous paintings and the people who made them.

Last year residents were greeted with more than 50 handmade sock monkeys.

Now residents can expect to find miniature versions of famous paintings like the Mona Lisa, Van Gogh's Sunflowers, or an impressionist or pop art masterpiece.

Totton Arts Festival coordinator Allison Caddell said: "I’ve enjoyed painting and hiding rocks with my son for years.

"We wanted to bring fine art to the good people of Totton and get young children finding the stones then hopefully looking up the artist and discussing their work. Ideally we would love them to find some artwork and be inspired to recreate a famous painting they enjoy”.

There will be more than 60 rocks hidden around the town before the festival starts on May 26 at Hanger Farm Arts Centre.
