THE superhero has returned to school.

Six-year-old Harry St Ledger is back after inspiring a fundraising appeal to help research a cure for brain cancer.

Harry, of Portchester, has just finished six weeks of treatment for an incurable brain tumour.

Yesterday, Harry walked through his Castle Primary School gates to a hero's welcome.

Dressed as Spiderman, his sister Emonie, eight, also dressed as a superhero – her brother Harry.

Each day, Harry used his favourite superhero as a mask that was bolted across his face to make sure the treatment was pinpoint.

His fundraising campaign, called Harry's Appeal for Brain Tumour Research, was launched by his parents Ciaran St Ledger and Fiona Lear. It has set a £50,000 target and is highlighting the fact that brain tumours kill more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other cancer, with only one per cent of the national cancer spend focused on the disease.

Just two months ago, Harry, who has autism, was diagnosed with a very rare type of tumour, and was originally treated at Queen Alexandra Hospital, before Southampton General Hospital, before undergoing radiotherapy in London.

His father Cairan, said: "We continue to live in a nightmare scenario, not knowing what the future will bring. We do know that Harry's tumour is incurable and the prognosis is extremely bleak. His first MRI after radiotherapy was inconclusive and we are now waiting for another to see if the treatment has had any effect on the tumour.

"We remain angry at the lack of treatment options and appalled at the historic underfunding of research into brain tumours and have launched our appeal in Harry's name so that other families don't have to go through the same painful experience as we have and continue to go through. It would be a great achievement for Harry to make a difference."
