STAFF at a Southampton nightclub are celebrating after winning an international award.

The Edge and The Box Bar were voted UK LGBT nightclub of the year by travel company iGap.

A spokesperson for the company said they were chosen for "doing a fantastic job" and their "inclusivity."

But it's not the club's first award.

DJ and events promoter Darcy Buckland said they have already won awards from the Golden Handbags for best out of town club on several occasions. a

She said this latest award is "absolutely wonderful" while general manager Andreas Maragkos put their success down to being "the last gay club in town" and being inclusive.

He said: "I think it's the fact that we are changing and growing and adapting to the needs of the community.

"And taking into account we are the last gay club in Southampton but we don't target gays only, we are so open. But it's nice to see that we are doing something right."

The club celebrates 23 years in Southampton this year - and is celebrating with a white party on June 23. There will be a foam machine and a wet t shirt competition.

Andreas added: "We will have a paddling pool in the garden. Everyone will get soaked, then we'll take pictures of them in their wet t shirt and the one with the most votes wins."

The Edge was voted for by subscribers to iGap's website.

As reported the Compton Walk club also offers a Tuesday club-night for adults with learning difficulties.
